Dessert's Bar

The night started quite nicely with Ms. Sunbeam and I driving around town visiting my past hangout spots. Needless to say, a lot have changed since I last immersed myself in the nightlife in the Klang Valley. Cool hangout spots that I used to grace my presence with are now as quiet as can be. As the last resort, Ms. Sunbeam and I made our way to Plaza Mont’ Kiara. Having parked the car at the plaza, Ms. Sunbeam and I decided to walk down Jalan Kiara seeing that the plaza was so empty. Walking down the road after the police station, we stumbled upon Dessert’s Bar.

While many may have discovered this gem, Ms. Sunbeam and I were clueless. This is especially so when she rarely goes out and I am residing in United States (US) more than half the time. An eatery that specializes and serves dessert menu items is huge in the US. To find one like this in Malaysia was a surprise for me.

From the outside, the décor looked simple yet inviting. Perhaps it was the color red and the word ‘dessert’ that drew me. We walked towards Dessert’s Bar and peruse their menu located right just at the entrance. The menu has a wide variety and it was difficult to make a selection. Nonetheless, Ms. Sunbeam and I were pretty lucky as they launched a new dessert that very day. It was their ‘belgium dark chocolate fondue’. In a nutshell, the dessert picked us and we were sold.

Patrons have a choice of sitting by the bar to watch the chef de patisserie at work or enjoy the plush armchairs and sofa within the establishment. For those who love to sit outside and enjoy the scenery, Dessert’s Bar have a space for that too. The interior décor is decked out in red with pictures of food to stimulate the senses.

Waiting for our dessert, Ms. Sunbeam and I ordered Earl Grey and Lemon Tea with Honey respectively. There is nothing quite like pairing tea with chocolate to excite the taste buds. Aromatic tea which is not heavy on taste does not overpower the chocolate but compliments the flavor of dark chocolate instead. Ms. Sunbeam also made the right choice by picking Lemon Tea with Honey as the lemon in the tea like Earl Grey does not upstage the chocolate and the combination of honey and chocolate can only create sparks in ones mouth.

When the dessert finally arrived though took a little longer than expected, we were not disappointed. The dessert was worth waiting for.

The dessert came with an assortment of fruit and waffle wafer slices accompanied with a glass of assorted nuts. The fine quality chocolate coupled with the chef’s skills was tempered to perfection as it coated the goodies effortlessly while maintaining a glossy appearance. Correctly tempered chocolate will yield a bright, crisp, and shiny chocolate, while incorrectly tempered chocolate will produce results that are streaky and dull.

The icing on the cake was the home-brewed ice cream that came with it. We had a taste of their strawberry, chocolate raspberry and black sesame with soy milk ice cream.

What we love about the ice cream? It is not too sweet yet creamy while imparting a unique taste especially with the black sesame selection.

As we complete our meal, it started to rain heavily. If it was our home, we would have gone to sleep after ending our night with a scrumptious feast. All in all, Ms. Sunbeam who is NOT an avid dessert lover like me has a change of heart and will be returning to this four month old establishment. So will I. ;)
